A little bit about me

My name is Maria Paz Fernández García B.A. (Hons) L.M.P.A

I have always loved making pictures, especially with a camera, however, I like to think of myself as an imagemaker rather than photographer because the camera is only a part of the creative process.  My background is in fine art having studied painting, printmaking, photography and art history.  After Art College I began working in children’s portraiture after a friend asked me to photograph her children, and this soon expanded into a rather large, nationwide high-volume portrait business with three partners. After a break to raise my own children, I returned to work in social photography (mainly weddings and portraiture).

I am proud to be a fully qualified, award winning Licentiate Member of the Master Photographers Association (LMPA).

More recently, I have returned to my roots – Spain (Alicante), as I am passionate about the light and being close to the water. I love exploring light and dark, textures and colours.   My upbringing (I was born in Madrid, and brought up in New York, moving to London in 1970, and then to Brighton) gave me an ongoing passion to travel the world and continue observing other cultures and how artists and architects have shaped our world.   I also love just observing people! Under the ‘places and things’ galleries you will have the opportunity to purchase any of these images in a variety of formats. Please email me regarding this.

I am available for portrait commissions either in my studio in San Juan de Alicante, Brighton, or California.   I hope that by letting me into your world, be it to photograph your baby, family, or yourself, that we can work together to make a piece of art that will hang in your home and be a part of your family’s history for many years to come.

My beautiful family (above) keep me going
